Waqrapukara, which in Quechua means «Fortress with Horns,» is one of Cusco’s most impressive and least explored archaeological sites. Situated at over 4,300 meters (14,100 ft) above sea level, this ancient Inca construction rises amidst deep canyons, rocky mountains, and otherworldly landscapes.

Itinerary

  • 03:30 hrs – Hotel Pick-up:
    We will depart early from Cusco in a tourist vehicle heading south of the region.
  • 06:30 hrs – Andean Breakfast on the Way:
    Stop at a rural restaurant to enjoy a traditional Quechua breakfast.
  • 07:30 hrs – Arrival at the Huayqui or Campi Community:
    Trekking begins. Depending on the chosen route, the hike can last between 1.5 to 3 hours, with moderate to high difficulty. Along the trail, you will see alpacas, rock formations, native plants, and spectacular canyon views.
  • 10:30 hrs – Arrival at the Waqrapukara Archaeological Complex:
    We will explore this enigmatic Inca site, built atop a horn-shaped cliff. We will visit its enclosures, platforms, viewpoints, and ceremonial areas while the guide shares its history and spiritual significance.
  • 12:00 hrs – Free Time:
    Enjoy the site at your own pace, take photos, or simply admire the landscape.
  • 13:00 hrs – Return Trek:
    We will return along the same route to the point where the vehicle awaits.
  • 15:30 hrs – Lunch on the Way:
    Enjoy a hearty Andean lunch.
  • 16:30 hrs – Return to Cusco:
    Travel back in a tourist vehicle, enjoying views of the Cusco highlands.
  • 19:00 hrs – Arrival in Cusco and End of the Tour.
